Braves Lead Best of Seven Game Series 3-2
The Braves took their first lead in the series with a win in what turned out to be an exciting pitcher’ s duel between Lew Burdette and Whitey Ford. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Braves picked up their only run of the game. With two outs, Eddie Mathews kept the inning alive with a single and he moved to third on a Hank Aaron single. Then Joe Adcock singled home Mathews for what turned out to be the game winning run.
Burdette won his second game of the series with a complete game, seven hit shutout. He didn’t walk a single batter and he struck out five and all seven hits by the Yankees were singles.
