Braves 13, Pirates 6 (40-29)
Just about every Braves hitter made a contribution their fourth straight win but Hank Aaron was a notch above the rest as the Braves blewout the Pirates in their series opener. Aaron went two for four with his 21st homerun, three RBIs and two runs. Eddie Mathews had a team high three hits, one of which was his 15th homer, and he scored twice.
Lew Burdette had a rough start and he gave up six runs in five innings. The pen and the hitters picked him up though and it was Juan Pizarro who picked up the win. He gave up just three hits in 3 2/3 innings of shutout relief.
