Another victory at Turner Field for the Braves as Mark Kotsay hit an RBI double in the Eighth inning to knock in Chipper Jones for the go-ahead run and break the 2-2 tie. The Braves won against the A’s 3-2 at home tonight extending their winning streak at Turner Field to eight. In 13 one-run decicisions, the win was only their second victory in one-run game. Chipper Jones hit a single up the middle to start the rally by the Braves in the Eighth. Jones had missed yesterday’s game due to a strained groin against the Phillies in which Chuck James struggled on the mound, but he returned tonight with precision at the plate. Jones went 2-3 and increased his Major League-leading batting average to .423. The Braves started rookie Jair Jurrjens on the mound with short rest for the first time in his career. Jurrjens lasted five innings and surrendered eight hits and no earned runs. However, the two runs that did score were due to his throwing error on a play off a sacrifice bunt. Atlanta will continue the series against Oakland tomorrow at Turner Field with Tim Hudson on the mound.
