Braves Win Fourth Straight Game Behind Solid Outing By Bob Buhl

The Braves finished up the month of July with a four game winning streak and this time, it was Bob Buhl who got it done on the mound.  He improved to 13-6 and he gave up two runs (one earned) on eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts in the complete game win.

Red Schoendienst was the hitting star in the win.  He went three for three with a solo homer and a walk.  Johnny Logan also went yard with a solo homer.

Lew Burdette Pitches Braves to Third Straight Win

Braves 5, Pirates 2  (59-41)

Lew Burdette improved to 9-6 on the season with a solid start as the Braves won their third straight game.  He gave up just two runs on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts in the complete game win.

Johnny Logan singled twice, drew a walk and drove in two runs to lead the Braves at the plate in the win.  Del Crandall went two for four with two runs.

Braves Come Back Big In Ten Inning Win Over Giants

In an amazing comeback the Braves scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the game into extra frames and then Mantillia drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the tenth to win it.  Wes Covington had a big game and he went two for four with a homerun, three RBIs and two runs while Del Crandall went two for four with a solo homer.

Warran Spahn was roughed up for four runs in 4 2/3 innings a no decision.  Bob Trowbridge threw a shutout tenth inning and he improved to 4-3 on the season.

Braves Split Doubleheader With Giants

The Braves were held to just seven hits in a shutout loss to the Giants in their first game of a doubleheader.  Nippy Jones had three of the Braves seven hits and Red Schoendienst had two hits.

Bob Trowbridge fell to 3-3 on the season despite a decent start.  He gave up two runs on eight hits with six strikeouts in seven innings of work.

The Braves salvaged a split in their doubleheader with the Giants with a big fourth inning in which they scored four of their five runs.  Eddie Mathews singled and he drove in two runs while Johnny Logan went three for four with a run and an RBI.

Gene Conley improved to 5-5 on the season with a nice start.  He gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits with two strikeouts in the complete game win.

Bob Buhl improved to 12-6 on the season with an impressive start at the Braves won their second straight game.  He gave up just two runs on nine hits and three walks with four strikeouts in the complete game win.

Eddie Mathews went three for four and he scored a run.  Wes Covington singled and he drove in two runs.

Braves Double Up Giants In Eleven Innings

Joe Torre singled home the second of two runs in the eighth inning to tie the Braves game with the Giants and send it into extra frames.  Then in the bottom of the eleventh, Nippy Jones blasted a huge three run homer to win it for the Braves.  Eddie Mathews also helped out the cause with a single and a solo homer, his nineteenth of the season.

Lew Burdette gave the Braves eight quality innings but he didn’t pick up a decision.  He gave up three runs on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts in eight innings.  All three runs were scored on three different solo homers.  Gene Conley threw three shutout innings to close the game out and he improved to 4-5 on the season.

Hank Aaron Belts Thirtieth Homer In Braves Loss

The Braves lost their rubber game with the Phillies despite Hank Aaron’s 30th homerun of the season.  Unfortunately, his long ball came with nobody on base.  Wes Convington had a triple and he scored a run in the loss.

Warren Spahn dropped to 10-8 with a mediocre start.  He gave up three runs on five hits and two walks without a single strikeout in five innings of work.

Braves Held to Five Hits In Loss to Phillies

Phillies starter Jack Sanford held the Braves in check as the Phillies evened up their series with the Braves.  Wes Convington had two of the Braves five hits and he drove in their only run with his ninth homerun of the season.

A pretty good start by Gene Conley went to waste.  He dropped to 3-5 and he gave up two runs on seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts in eight solid frames.

Bob Buhl Throws Two Hit Shutout In Braves Win Over Phillies

Bob Buhl appeared to be back on track as he picked up his second straight win in an impressive two hit shutout over the Phillies.  He improved to 11-6 and he walked four and struck out six.

Johnny Logan tripled in the lone run for either side in the first inning.  The triple was his seventh consecutive hit, a streak that ended later that game.

Braves Split Doubleheader With Giants

The Braves blew a two run lead and a solid start by Warran Spahn went to waste as the Braves five game winning streak came to an end in the first game of a doubleheader with the Giants.  Spahn gave up two runs on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts in seven innings of work.  Don McMahon gave up the tying and losing run in the ninth inning and he fell to 0-1 on the season.

Eddie Mathews singled, drove in two runs and scored a run.  Johnny Logan singled twice and he drove in a run in the loss.

The Braves salvaged a split in their doubleheader with the Giants as they racked up sixteen hits in their series with the Giants.  Johnny Logan was a perfect five for five and he belted a solo homer while Del Crandall went three for five with a two run homer.

Lew Burdette was knocked around and he gave up four runs in four innings in a no decision start.  Ernie Johnson threw three shutout innings to close out the game and he improved to 6-1 on the season.

Wes Covington Homers Twice In Braves Fifth Straight Win

For the second straight game, a Brave hitter belted two homeruns in a game and for the fifth straight game, the Braves took care of a team from New York.  Wes Covington homered twice and drove in three runs to lead the Braves and Del Crandall went yard with a solo shot.  Covington’s final homerun, a two run shot in the ninth inning, broke a 5-5 tie.

Bob Trowbridge gave up four unearned runs in a no decision.  Ernie Johnson got the final four Giants out and he improved to 5-1 on the season.

Gene Conley Throws Braves to Fourth Straight Win

The Braves continued their hot streak in the state of New York as they picked up their fourth straight win.  All three runs came on a pair of homers by Andy Pafko, including a two run shot in the top of the ninth that broke a 1-1 tie.

Gene Conley improved to 3-4 with the win.  He gave up one run on seven hits with one strikeout in the complete game win.

Bob Buhl Pitches Braves to Third Straight Win

The Braves won their 50th game and for Bob Buhl it was his first win in a while.  He improved to 10-6 and he gave up two runs on ten hits and seven walks with two strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings.  Don McMahon got the final out of the game via strikeout and he saved his fourth game of the season.

Del Rice was the hitting star. He went two for three with a homerun and three RBIs.  Joe Torre singled, tripled and scored twice in the win.

Hank Aaron, Red Schoendienst Score Three Runs Each In Braves Blowout Win

The Braves hitters got it going as they took care of the Phillies for the second straight game.  Red Schoendienst and Hank Aaron each had three hits three runs a piece while Joe Torre went four for four with a walk, two runs and two RBIs.

Lew Burdette improved to 8-6 with a solid start.  He gave up three runs on eight hits and one walk with two strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.  Don McMahon gave up two hits and two walks and he struck out three in 3 2/3 innings of shutout relief to pick up his third save of the season.

Braves Pitchers Give Up Twenty Runs In Loss to Dodgers

The Braves lost an ugly one.  Five different pitchers all gave up runs in a 20-4 route at the hands of the Dodgers.  Bob Trowbridge gave uip five runs in 2 2/3 innings and he took the loss while Taylor Phillips gave up nine runs in just one inning of work.

Carl Sawatski and Wes Covington both went yard in the game.  Covington went three for four with two runs.

Dodgers End Braves Three Game Run With Ninth Inning Comeback

The Braves took a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth only to see it disappear when Bob Buhl gave up a two run shot in the bottom of the ninth as he dropped his fourth straigth decision.  He gave up three runs on six hits and five walks with five strikeouts in eight innings of work.

Joe Torre went three for four in the loss.  Red Schoendienst provided half of the Braves offense with a solo homer, his tenth of the season.

Lew Burdette picked up the win and he improved to 7-6 on the season.  He gave up three runs on ten hits with a strikeout in the complete game win.

Braves Edge Pirates For Second Straight Win

The Braves held off a late inning surge by the Pirates to hold on to win their second straight game.  Warren Spahn threw a nice game but he needed help in the ninth after getting into trouble.  Spahn improved to 9-7 and he gave up four runs (three earned) on nine hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 8 1/3 innings.  Don McMahon got the final two batters out to earned his second save of the season.

Hank Aaron homered and drove in two runs.  The long ball was his 28th of the season.  Johnny Logan belted a solo shot and Joe Torre drove in two runs in the win.

The Braves hitters got it going as they picked up their first win of the season half.  Johnny Logan belted a two run homer and he finished with three RBIs while Hank Aaron singled twice and scored two runs. 

Bob Trowbridge was impressive in his start.  He improved to 3-1 and he gave up two runs on twelve hits and three walks with four strikeouts in the complete game win.

Braves Kick Off Second Half With Loss to Pirates

The Braves started the second half with a loss and it was Bob Buhl who dropped his third straight start after a very nice April and May.  He gave up five runs (just two earned) on five hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in six frames and the loss dropped him to 9-5 on the season.

Eddie Mathews was the primary producer of the Braves offense.  He went two for four and his two run homer accounted for both of the Braves runs.  The homerun was his eighteenth of the season.

Braves Head Into All Star Break With Win Over Cubs

The Braves headed into the All Star Break with a win as they avoided a sweep at the hands of the Cubs.  With the loss, the Braves sat just 2 1/2 games back of the first place Cardinals.  Lew Burdette evened up his record with the win.  He improved to 6-6 and he gave up two runs on six hits and one walk with six strikeouts in the complete game win.

Hank Aaron went three for four with a run.  Wes Covington went two for four with a triple, two RBIs and a run.

Cubs Edge Braves For Another Loss

The Braves tough start in July continued as they dropped their second straight game and they lost for the fifth time in six games.  Warren Spahn took the loss and he fell to 8-7 on the season.  He gave up three runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts in seven innings.

Eddie Mathews had two singles and an RBI to pace the Braves.  Andy Pafko pitched in with a pinch hit solo homerun.

Bob Buhl had his second straight rough start as the Braves lost for the fourth time in five games.  He fell to 9-4 and he gave up four runs (three earned) on four hits and one walks with one strikeout in 1 1/3 innings.

Hank Aaron continued to rake the ball and he belted his 27th homerun.  He finished the game with two RBIs.  Johnny Logan also went yard with a solo shot.

Hank Aaron Powers Braves to Win Over Reds

Hank Aaron led the Braves at the plate as they ran up the score on the Reds to end their three game losing streak.  He went three for five with a homerun, three RBIs and two runs.  The homerun was his 26th of the season.  Eddie Mathews went two for five with his 17th homerun and two runs.  Bill Bruton pitched in with two for four with a triple, a stolen base, a walk, two runs and an RBI.

Gene Conley picked up the win despite a shaky relief appearance.  He gave up three runs in 2 2/3 innings and he improved to 2-4 on the season.  Don McMahon threw two shutout innings of relief to pick up his first save of the season.

Braves Drop Third Straight Game

The Braves dropped their third straight game and this time it was a tough start by Lew Burdette.  He gave up seven runs on ten hits and two walks in just 5 2/3 innings.  The loss dropped him to 5-6 on the season.

Hank Aaron hit homerun number 25 with a two run homer in the first inning.  Del Crandall and Wes Covington both went yard in the loss as well.

The Braves offense disappeared and Warren Spahn didn’t have his best stuff as the Braves suffered their second straight defeat at the hands of the Cardinals.  Spahn fell to 8-6 and he gave up four runs (three earned) on ten hits with five strikeouts in seven frames.

Red Schoendienst doubled and scored a run in the loss.  Hank Aaron singled and he drove in a run.

Cardinals Shell Bob Buhl, Braves Six Game Winning Streak Ends

Bob Buhl had a tough start and he fell to 9-3 as the Braves six game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Cardinals.  Buhl gave up five runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks with one strikeout in 2 1/3 innings.  In all, four Braves errors led to five unearned runs.

Hank Aaron hit his 24th homer of the season with a solo shot in the fifth inning.  Wes Covington went three for five with a homerun and two RBIs in the loss.
