Braves Sweep Doubleheader Over Pirates to Extend Winning Streak to Six Games

Braves 7, Pirates 4  (41-29)

The Braves made it five straight as they won the first game of a doubleheader with the Pirates.  Hank Aaron hit homerun number 22 with a solo shot in the first inning.  Carl Sawatski also had a nice game and he went two for four with a homerun, two RBIs and two runs.  The Braves big inning was the eighth in which they scored five runs to break a 2-2 tie.

Bob Trowbridge gave up two runs in seven innings but he didn’t get the decision because he left the game tied.  Ernie Johnson improved to 4-1 and he gave up two runs in two innings of relief.

Braves 6, Pirates 5  (42-29)

The Braves finished off June on a winning note as they rattled off their sixth straigth win as they completed a doubleheader sweep over the Pirates.  Hank Aaron once again led the way and he went four for six with homerun number 23, two RBIs and two runs.  Felix Mantilla went three for five with a two run homer.  The game winner was a two run homer in the bottom of the thirteenth inning by Eddie Mathews.

Dave Jolly picked up his first win of the season despite giving up the go ahead run in the top of the thirteenth inning.  Taylor Phillips gave up four runs in his eight inning start.
