Braves Split Doubleheader With Giants

Giants 5, Braves 4  (52-38)

The Braves blew a two run lead and a solid start by Warran Spahn went to waste as the Braves five game winning streak came to an end in the first game of a doubleheader with the Giants.  Spahn gave up two runs on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts in seven innings of work.  Don McMahon gave up the tying and losing run in the ninth inning and he fell to 0-1 on the season.

Eddie Mathews singled, drove in two runs and scored a run.  Johnny Logan singled twice and he drove in a run in the loss.

Braves 7, Giants 4  (53-38)

The Braves salvaged a split in their doubleheader with the Giants as they racked up sixteen hits in their series with the Giants.  Johnny Logan was a perfect five for five and he belted a solo homer while Del Crandall went three for five with a two run homer.

Lew Burdette was knocked around and he gave up four runs in four innings in a no decision start.  Ernie Johnson threw three shutout innings to close out the game and he improved to 6-1 on the season.
