Braves Lose to In Doubleheader Sweep To Cubs

Cubs 7, Braves 5  (20-12)

The Braves lost the front end of their doubleheader to the Cubs with some rough pitching.  Gene Conley dropped to 0-2 and he gave up three runs in just two innings in his start.  Taylor Phillips gave up four runs in five innings of relief.

Chuck Tanner homered and he finished with two runs.  Del Crandall also went yard with a two run shot.

Cubs 5, Braves 4  (20-13)

Juan Pizarro was hit hard by the Cubs in the second game of the Braves doubleheader and he dropped to 2-3 on the season. He gave up five runs on six hits and seven walks with eight strikeouts in 8 1/3 innings.

Eddie Mathews hit homerun number eight and he was the only Brave with two hits.  Del Rice hit a solo homerun and that was his first of the season.
