The Braves came back from three runs down to tie their game up with the Phillies in the eighth inning only to see Ernie Johnson give up the losing run in the bottom of the ninth. Taylor Phillips was touched up for three runs in 3 1/3 innings while Bob Trowbridge help the Braves get back into the game with 3 2/3 innings of shutout relief.
Eddie Mathews was the hitting star in the loss. He went two for four with two RBIs and a run. Red Schoendienst doubled and he scored a run.
