September 8, 1957 at County Stadium
Cubs 5, Braves 3 (83-53)
The Braves once again just couldn’t seem to get on track and while they scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to send the game in extra innings, Ernie Johnson gave up two runs in the top of the tenth as the Braves lost for the fourth time in five games. Gene Conley was touched up for three runs in 3 2/3 innings in his start and then the pen did a nice job of holding onto things until Johnson gave up the pair in the tenth.
Wes Covington belted a solo homerun, his nineteenth of the season. Eddie Mathews was the only Brave with two hits with a triple and a single while Red Schoendienst singled, drew two walks, scored a run and drove in one.
