Braves Held to Single Run In World Series Opener Against Yankees

Yankees Lead Best of Seven Game Series 1-0

The Braves offense faltered against Yankees starter Whitey Ford as they dropped the first game of their seven game series against the Yankees.  The Braves didn’t score their run until the seventh inning when already down 3-0 and the run scored on an RBI single by Red Schoendienst.

Warren Spahn didn’t have his best stuff and he was gone before the end of the sixth inning.  He gave up a single run in the fifth and two in the sixth on seven hits and a walk.  Oddly, he didn’t strike out a single batter in his 5 1/3 innings of work.
