Braves 4, Yankees 2
Best of Seven Game Series Tied 1-1
The Braves bounced back and evened their series against the Yankees in a game where it seemed like the Yankees answered when the Braves put runs on the board. Lew Burdette got the start for the Braves and it was Shantz for the Yankees. The Braves put the first run of the game on the board in the second inning when Hank Aaron led off with triple and he then scored on Joe Adcock’s single. The Yankees answered with a run in the bottom of the second on Jerry Coleman’s RBI single.
The Braves once again took the lead in the third inning. This time it was Johnny Logan who went deep with a solo homer to make it 2-1. Like the Braves first lead, this was short lived because in the bottom of the third, Hank Bauer belted a solo homer of his own to tie the game 2-2.
The Braves finally opened the game up in the fourth. Joe Adcock, Andy Pafko and Wes Covington all singled to start the inning off and Adcock and Pafko scored on that final single by Covington. He did have some help on an error by Tony Kubek but from that point on, the game remained 4-2. Burdette calmed down and pitched six scoreless innings to close out the game.
