Braves 6, Giants 3 (55-40)
Joe Torre singled home the second of two runs in the eighth inning to tie the Braves game with the Giants and send it into extra frames. Then in the bottom of the eleventh, Nippy Jones blasted a huge three run homer to win it for the Braves. Eddie Mathews also helped out the cause with a single and a solo homer, his nineteenth of the season.
Lew Burdette gave the Braves eight quality innings but he didn’t pick up a decision. He gave up three runs on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts in eight innings. All three runs were scored on three different solo homers. Gene Conley threw three shutout innings to close the game out and he improved to 4-5 on the season.
