Back-to-Back Extra Innings Losses for Braves

by @ 7:24 pm. Filed under Uncategorized

The struggles on the road continued today for the Braves as Atlanta lost 8-7 in extra innings.  Jair Jurrjens gave up six runs on the mound in four innings including two home runs while only striking out two and throwing 99 pitches.  The two home runs were the same as the total he has surrendered in 66 innings on the mound this season.  One of those homers was to Ken Griffey Jr. who hit his 599th career homer.  For the Braves Greg Norton, Mark Teixeira, and Jeff Francoeur all hit a long ball. Rafael Soriano was given his first chance for a save in nearly a month and he gave up a game-tying run in the Ninth.  Then the rookie phenom of the Reds, Jay Bruce, came to the plate with the game tied in the tenth to hit the walk-off homer off Manny Acosta for the 8-7 win.  Bruce was the winning run last night in the extra-innings win for the Reds in just his fourth Big League game.  The Braves are continuing to fight their road struggles as they take on the Reds tomorrow at Great American Ball Park with Tim Hudson taking the mound.
