Braves Win Best of Seven Game Series 4-3

The Braves won the 1957 World Series behind another spectacular outing by Lew Burdette.  In his second straight shutout and his third win of the series, Burdette held the Yankees to seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  The three wins were good enough for him to pick up the World Series MVP.

The Braves did most of their damage early in the game with four runs in the third inning.  Burdette led off the game with a pop up before Bob Hazle singled.  Johnny Logan then reached on an error by Tony Kubek before Eddie Mathews cleared the bases with a two run double.  Hank Aaron then singled home Mathews and Aaron later scored on Joe Torre’s fielders choice.

The Braves added a fifth run in the eighth on Del Crandall’s solo homer but by then, the game was in the bag.  The Braves had their first World Championship since the team played in Boston back in 1914.
